Kuusamo Production Facility

Kuusamo is the location of Pölkky corporation's headquarters, its sales and administration units as well as Pölkky Metsä Oy, which handles all raw timber procurement. The sawmill at Kuusamo is specialised in the sawing of large logs. One particular feature is the use of the scan and set sawing method in which each log is sawn individually into pieces of specific dimensions. This ensures the optimal utilisation of each log. The Kuusamo Production Facilitiy handles the majority of the company's further processing activities.

Sawing line

• Log sorter with 44 bins
• Circular sawing line
• Camera-assisted green sorter, 38 bins
• Large drying capacity: 22 chambers, 7 channels
• Camera-assisted trimming and grading line: 42 bins, stress sorting and automatic moisture measurement
• Extra dry timber is placed in a specially designed storage facility.

Further processing lines

• Three planing lines: esim. bundling, plastic wrapping, end grooving, small-bundle packaging and precision end trimming possibility, mini-labels and individual barcodes.
• Finger-jointing line and camera sorting: maximum component length: 7 m.
• Finger-jointing line: maximum size 250x250 mm and length 13 m, strength licenses for the manufacturing of structural components (Finland and Germany).
• Priming line for exterior panels.
• Precision end trimming line: PET components (+-– 1 mm tolerance).
• Package cutting
• Twin band saw milling for timber splitting.
